  1. Good day mate, messaging from Australia, I have recently finished a build up of a rifle my father purchased for me many years ago. A Sako L579 Forester, it was a .243 feather weight that I did not use very often as I do very little stalking now days, I converted it to more of a Varmint/Target rifle now with heavy bbl and stock chambered in 6.5 needmoor lol. Would you be able to recommend the best rings/bases to allow fitment of a 6-24×50 gen1 Viper pst. I have a set of low 30mm Leupold rings for the classic one piece base, but they wont allow the scope to clear the barrel. In my research I have only found a set of Leupold – Sako Dovetail – Ring mounts that claw straight onto the action dovetail. Is that as good as I am going to find for these classic rifles? Cheers from Australia mate.

  2. I agree that the vertical split rigs are terrible to work with! You need 7 hands, and despite this, they will fall apart on you at lest 5 times during assembly! The vertical configuration is supposed to prevent the scope from rotating whilst you tighten the rings (common with horizontally split rings), but it’s simply not worth the fuss. As you mentioned – moving the complete scope assembly to another rifle is also out of the question. Hard pass on these, thank you!

  3. The bore scopes are set to a certain height. Mine, Cabella’s, are set scope center to bore center at 1.5”. So you adjust the scope to bore site accordingly. Nice to know if you want higher rings to continue to use steel sights.

  4. Did you try the Wheeler "sporter" mounts? They look decent for 30 bucks and they seem to check all the boxes you mentioned in this video. I’m thinking of getting these for an air rifle but I may also use the scope on a firearm someday

  5. Vertical split rings aren’t that bad…. I’ve always loved the looks of them and have them on several rifles and have never had a problem….then again I don’t really swap scopes around…a lot normally it’s set it get it rock solid then it never comes off that rifle

  6. I use Warne vertical split rings on almost all my rifles while not as simple as horizontal rings, I would hardly call it a nightmare. Just mount them to the scope loosely, place the recoil lug in the mount or rail and put the rings in place.

  7. I’m a big fan of Leupold Mark 4 rings. I watch for sets on my local gun forum in the classified section. I wait a few weeks. And then offer $40. Bought two sets. Bought another on eBay for $50. Just bought a Leupold mark 4 cantilever one piece mount for $50. I sometimes don’t need them . But at the price I just buy them to have if I need a set. Amazing how people buy the wrong height. Then when they go to sell. People aren’t confident that the rings are going to work. And it’s not like you can drive over to a strangers house and ask to try them out on your rifle.

  8. What kind of scope rings were the ones you were talking about at 2:18? They’re the regular style single scope rings that mount on the rail?

  9. You kept mentioning leaving links in the description, which you ended up not doing. What specific brand and model of rings would you recommend for a ruger american in 30-06 (so a long action and I believe it requires weaver mounts) and a vortex 4-12×40 scope (which has a 1in tube)? Thanks for the video!

  10. Thanks buddy for the great review. I bought a cheap Savage 308 and it has those cheap rings and scope I have been having a hard time keeping it at Zero. then I realized that the scope get loose after a few shots. on 2.47min, you showed that cheap ring from Walmart and hit the nail on the head for me. Upgrading those rings as we speak. Thanks

  11. I have a weatherby vanguard I need a base and rings. I don’t want to spend too much on these items but can’t make a decision. I have a 1 inch tube on my scope with a 40mm objective. Any recommendations?

  12. What height rings would you recommend for a swarovski z3 -4x12x50 on a picattny rail on a remington model 700 270 ?Thks

  13. I purchased a DBK-RIM 2-7 x35 Rimfire V-plex Vortex Diamondback riflescope. I would like to mount it on to my .22 bolt action Marlin Glenfield Model 25. What rings would you suggest?

  14. Thanks!! So what about 21mm rings for a 1” scope tube? Is this a proper alternative for a 1” scope ring? Does the 21mm actually fit? Thanks in advance for the reply.

  15. I’m not sure what they are called but on majority of my hunting rifles the scope rings allow me to still use my open sights easily. To me say you by chance have the deer of a lifetime comes in 15yrds away that scope isn’t doing anything, while open sights still an option. Or by chance you trip walking into the woods and don’t trust if your scope got dinged enough it might be off, well without open sights it’s left to chance while with that style rings open sights are still an option. Just a preference I suppose.

  16. Great video! I’ve once wanted to buy this scope rings with bubble level.. quickly dismissed it cuz the level would be right under scope tube and I won’t be able to see it without moving😂

  17. I just bought a Henry lever action model ho12 gcl 45 colt with side load gate my dilemma is I want to be able to use it for deer black bear and cougar but still want to be able to use it for cowboy action shooting my brother in law told me I could get one of those quick attach detach rings that I can pop on for hunting and off for cas to use the semi buckhorn I hope my theory is correct and it would work but I don’t know

  18. I just bought a hunting rifle with vertical mounts and do not plan on changing scopes anytime in the near future. I get your point with them being annoying when you swap out scopes, but if I don’t intend to do so are they still good?

  19. Anything wrong with using high quality rings for an LPVO on an AR if I can get both rings all on the upper and nothing touching the handguard?

  20. Rails on all my guns, swapping scopes is quick and easy, just need to re zero. Most of the time it’s just a few shots to get it right.

  21. Vibra-Tite VC series thread lock remain flexible and absorb vibration. This unique difference makes VC coated fasteners truly adjustable, removable, and reusable.
